Riley Cup
Sunday, September 9th, 2007Saturday brought very inconsistent breeze, with 90 degree shifts throughout the day. But conditions were manageable and good racing took place. The courses were trapezoids. On Sunday breeze was out of the east north east, pretty steady breeze with gusts from 5-15. With no signs of tropical storm Gabrielle. Courses for the day were Gold cups, and triangles with a windward finish. 12 races in each fleet were completed. Through out the weekend only 2 protests were filed.

The Riley Cup marks the beginning of the season for the team when we try new skipper/crew combinations and learn how much some team members have developed over the summer. As always, we had some successes and some disappointments. Kate McClintock’s and Jerrica Nichols performance on Saturday and Taylor Gray’s and Amy Polhemus’ on Sunday were particularly good. Taylor’s 6th and 5th to finish the event were quite creditable. Matt started well with a 3rd on Sunday, but he couldn’t match that in later races. He was quite frank in saying that he was a bit rusty, not having raced since the Spring.
