Located on Deep Creek just six miles from campus, the Christopher Newport Sailing Center is exceptionally complete. It has changing rooms for men and women, rest rooms, a classroom, workroom, lounge, several storage rooms, and a coach’s office. Deep Creek itself is a unique marine environment with two marinas, a restaurant, a yacht club, and a fleet of work boats that fish the James River.

Our sailing waters include both Deep Creek, for practice on tight courses and shifty winds, and the open James River. The James is unmatched for good open water racing, perfectly suited to the collegiate dinghies. Since we are located at the southern border of the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association, we can practice late in the fall and start early in the spring.

Our fleet of boats is made up of:

  • 8 420’s
  • 8 FJ’s
  • 3 Support Boats
  • One 24’ Rainbow Sloop
  • One Lightening
  • The CNU Sailing Brochure details more information about Christopher Newport University and the team.
